American Heritage of South Jordan is a faith-based, private school. The culture and standards align with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, however, the school is not affiliated with the church. Students represent various denominations.

Does the school offer extended care hours?
Extended care hours run from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Occasionally, extended care hours are not available. The dates are indicated on the annual calendar.

Students entering pre-kindergarten at American Heritage of South Jordan must be 3 by September 1 and be potty-trained.
What is the age/birthday cutoff for kindergarten?
The deadline for kindergarten at American Heritage of South Jordan is December 1. All students turning five by December 1 and meeting the AHSJ kindergarten standards are eligible to enter kindergarten.

What if I need to take my student out of school for a few hours or a day for personal reasons?
Please contact the main office at 801-254-3882 to inform the administration of your student’s absence as soon as possible. Students being checked out during the day must be signed out in the office. Students are responsible for making up missed work or other obligations. Therefore, it is important to consider each student’s academic standing when considering family activities that remove students from school—keeping in mind that some school activities cannot be made-up. Students involved in fine arts classes will have mandatory performances that impact grades. Please pay close attention to the school calendar. Teachers must be given sufficient time to gather homework for students who will be absent.
How does American Heritage of South Jordan handle discipline?
As a private academic institution, American Heritage of South Jordan attracts students and families who choose to attend a faith-based school with high standards and values. When students enroll, they and their parents agree to the Code of Conduct, as well as uniform and behavior guidelines.
Disciplinary matters serious enough to warrant a student’s dismissal are referred to the administration for discussion.
How much access do students have to phones and the internet?
Students at American Heritage of South Jordan are expected to turn in all personal phones, IPods, and gaming devices to their homerooms. Students in grades 6 through 12 have internet access through tablets and laptops, which are used in class and at home.
What happens if my student misses a class?
Students are expected to attend all classes. Any student who misses a class should bring an excuse note or have a parent call in. Students are also expected to make up any missed work.
What if my student is having academic difficulty?
Close relationships among students, teachers, and advisers help us quickly recognize challenges and address them early. Lesson plans and missing assignments should be checked weekly on Parent Web in order to keep students current in their workload. Students should be encouraged to utilize the morning and afternoon study hall to complete homework.
How many American Heritage of South Jordan graduates go on the postsecondary education?
Virtually all of American Heritage of South Jordan students go on to college after graduating from American Heritage. Each year some of the students defer their education to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; some return to their home countries for obligatory military service.
Does American Heritage of South Jordan have different academic tracks?
American Heritage of South Jordan is on a traditional calendar, beginning the third week of August and ending the third week of May.
About how many hours of homework will my child have each week?
Homework varies based on a student’s age. All elementary students should expect to have math and reading homework on a daily basis. Students in grades 6 through 12 will have math homework regularly. Other classes will assign homework and projects as necessary for academic progress. Sixth through 12th-grade students will have a morning and afternoon study hall in order to complete homework.
Is hot lunch available at American Heritage of South Jordan?
American Heritage of South Jordan offers a few options for lunches. There are microwaves and vending machines available in the cafeteria as well as the Commons area. Most students bring their lunches, however, there is a small convenience market in the lunchroom. Parents may set up an account there if they choose.
What is security like at American Heritage of South Jordan?
Maintaining high standards of safety is a priority at American Heritage of South Jordan. All visitors are required to check-in at the main office and receive a visitor’s badge. The school has a number of recording cameras on all floors, as well as in the parking lot, to provide increased security. Recently, AHSJ has installed the Driftnet security system, which immediately alerts first responders in case of an emergency.
Is transportation provided for students?
American Heritage of South Jordan does not provide transportation to and from school for students. The administration does, however, compile a carpool list for families to arrange individual rides.
What are school hours?
American Heritage of South Jordan’s regular hours are 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Occasionally half days are scheduled. These are indicated on the annual calendar.
