Music

The music department at American Heritage offers students many options to pursue a musical interest or continue developing their talents. Classes are offered in all levels. Teachers work with the students to learn music theory, composition and note reading. Concerts are held at Christmastime and in the spring.

Instrument classes

Band and orchestra are offered to students starting in 4th grade. Guitar is offered to students beginning in 6th grade. The symphony class is a combination of String, Brass, Woodwinds, and Percussion.

Secondary Choir

Concert choir is required for students in 6th and 7th grades. The chamber choir is open to students in 8th through 12th grades, by audition only.

Lower School music

Music is incorporated into the classroom at an early age, which helps develop cognitive abilities, memory, and increased self-esteem. Students in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade participate in music classes each week.

Private lessons

In addition to our classes, private lessons in voice and various instruments are available on campus with our music teachers. Lessons are coordinated through the music teachers at an additional fee.

Dance

Dance at American Heritage provides students with the opportunity to acquire proficiency in dance regardless of previous training and background. Daily class options include hip hop/contemporary, and ballroom—with varying class levels. The classes are open to students in grades six through twelve. Classes are available after school for younger students. Advanced students may audition for the hip hop company, and the Alliance dance teams.

All dance students are expected to perform twice each year. First, the students perform  “Thriller” at the annual harvest celebration in the school parking lot. Later, they perform at the end of the year recital.

Visual Arts

The visual arts program at American Heritage offers students an array of experiences through various traditional media—drawing and painting. The various mediums are incorporated into the art classes where students learn about different disciplines and gain experience through the creation of their own projects. Occasionally, art classes are offered as an after-school program. Additional fees apply.
