The quantity and complexity of homework will vary by grade level and subject. Math and reading homework should be expected on a daily basis at every grade level, dependent on what was not completed in class. Homework in other subjects will be assigned in frequency and amount as the teacher deems appropriate.

Consistent failure to complete homework assignments may be grounds for discipline and will be considered in the re-admission process. Homework is designed to benefit the student in one of the following ways: 1) giving the student an opportunity to apply the material learned, 2) assessing the student’s knowledge in a certain subject, or 3) continual development of knowledge or skills learned. Homework should be completed as neatly as possible.

Student Best

At American Heritage of South Jordan, we recognize that each student is unique. Our teachers work to provide the best possible academic experience for each individual child. Likewise, we ask that students do their individual best on any given assignment, paper, project or test. Sometimes teachers will ask students to “re-do” their work when they feel they have not received their best effort.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

Students at American Heritage of South Jordan are expected to maintain a 2.5 GPA. We consider this to be average and attainable for all of our students. Students who fall below a 2.5 GPA are placed on academic probation. Students who earn below a 2.5 GPA in two consecutive terms will be in jeopardy of being dismissed from AHSJ.

We commend students who excel, earning a 3.5 GPA or higher, by recognizing the student on the American Heritage of South Jordan honor roll. Students who achieve a 4.0 in any given term are also recognized. Awards are given each spring.

Parents and Parent’s Web

It is vital that parents participate in a student’s academic experience at American Heritage. The Parent’s Web provides the link between parent and school, but it is up to each parent to log in and review a student’s progress. Parents are able to access lesson plans, homework, progress reports, and report cards through the Parent’s Web.
